Orissa High Court Distinguishes Consensual Relationships from Sexual Abuse
The Orissa High Court in India made a big decision.
They said that when two young people are in a relationship and both agree to it, it's not the same as sexual abuse.
A 21-year-old man was in jail because of this, but the court said he should be allowed to present his case in a lower court.
The court also mentioned that the girl and her father did not want to press charges because they had settled the matter with the help of others.
The judge, Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra, explained that making such relationships a crime is not allowed by law.
The Orissa High Court ruled that adolescent consensual relationships are legally different from sexual abuse.
A 21-year-old youth was directed to approach the trial court to present his case.
The girl and her father did not want to prosecute the youth as a settlement was reached.
Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra disposed of the plea on January 16.
The court referred to earlier verdicts to support its decision.
