Ashok Leyland Inaugurates Lucknow EV Plant
A new factory in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is making electric buses.
The factory, built in just 16-18 months, is called Ashok Leyland.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, along with other important ministers, opened it on 9th January 2026.
The factory is on land where a scooter factory used to be.
The government helped by giving a big discount on the land.
The factory will make 2,500 to 5,000 buses every year at first.
It will also train women to work in the factory.
The factory will help make the air cleaner by using electric buses instead of diesel ones.
The government made it easy for the company to build the factory quickly.
Many important people, like the Defence Minister and other ministers, were there for the opening.
Ashok Leyland's electric bus plant in Lucknow was inaugurated on 9th January 2026 by Yogi Adityanath, Rajnath Singh, and HD Kumaraswamy.
The plant was built in 16-18 months with support from the Uttar Pradesh government, including a 75% land subsidy.
The factory will initially produce 2,500-5,000 electric buses annually, with plans to expand to 10,000 buses.
The plant includes a skill development centre, 'Nalanda', focusing on training women for technical jobs in the EV sector.
The factory is designed as a green facility with rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, and a zero-discharge system.
