Textile Industry Body Seeks Uninterrupted Power Across Tamil Nadu

Power officials in Madurai asked some factories to use diesel generators during evening hours.

They said this was needed to help manage the electricity grid.

A textile industry group called OSMA wants factories to receive electricity from the regular grid all day and night.

The group says textile factories need steady power because their machines often run continuously.

Even a short power cut can slow production and disrupt work plans.

Diesel generators are much more expensive to operate.

OSMA estimates that generator power can cost about ₹30 for one unit of electricity.

The group says expensive power could make Tamil Nadu’s textile industry less competitive.
