CSMIA achieves highest carbon accreditation
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has received the highest level of carbon accreditation, called Level 5.
This means the airport has achieved net-zero emissions for its operations and has a plan to reach net-zero emissions from other sources by 2050.
Only 30 airports worldwide, including seven in the Asia-Pacific region and four in India, have this recognition.
CSMIA is committed to being a leader in sustainable aviation and will continue to innovate and set new standards for the industry.
The airport's achievement is based on a strong strategy for measuring, managing, and reducing emissions, supported by a robust environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework and a dedicated carbon management committee.
The airport has reported more than a 98% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since FY2022, largely due to energy efficiency measures and the replacement of older equipment with electric or low-emission alternatives.
CSMIA achieves Level 5 accreditation, the highest global recognition for carbon management.
The airport is one of 30 worldwide, seven in Asia-Pacific, and four in India to reach this level.
CSMIA has achieved operational net-zero emissions (Scope 1 & 2) and has a validated roadmap for net-zero Scope 3 emissions by 2050.
The accreditation is based on a data-led carbon strategy focusing on measuring, managing, reducing, and transparently communicating emissions.
MIAL emphasizes CSMIA's commitment to sustainable aviation operations and setting new benchmarks for the global aviation ecosystem.
