Bombay HC Criticizes NCB Over Inquiry Into Sameer Wankhede
The Bombay High Court looked at a case where the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) started an investigation against a former officer named Sameer Wankhede.
The court said that if people can easily complain about officers and the NCB acts on those complaints, it could cause confusion in the justice system.
Because of this, the court gave Wankhede temporary protection while the case is still being decided.
Wankhede had led a raid in 2021 that arrested a famous actor’s son, Aryan Khan, on a cruise ship.
The court also asked why the complaints against Wankhede only appeared after the raid and why the NCB waited to act on them.
Bombay High Court questioned NCB’s decision to investigate former officer Sameer Wankhede based on anonymous complaints.
Court warned that allowing such allegations could create chaos in criminal justice administration.
Interim relief granted to Wankhede, protecting him pending final adjudication.
Wankhede led a 2021 raid that arrested Aryan Khan and others on a cruise ship.
Court asked why allegations surfaced only after the initial arrest and why they were entertained later.
