Assam Cabinet Approves Agniveer Quota and Green Tax

The Assam government made several decisions at a cabinet meeting.

Former Agniveers who are permanent residents of Assam will get a 12% reservation in several uniformed government jobs.

Some older vehicles will face a Rs 3,000 tax when sold or transferred, but several types of vehicles are exempt.

The government says the tax money will support environmental work.

It also approved changes to how highway work and water projects are managed.

The Assam Regiment and Madhupur Satra will receive financial support.

A company will study a possible extension of Guwahati's riverfront, but construction has not been approved.

The cabinet also approved turning a proposed reserve forest area into a revenue village so residents can access land documents and government services.
