First Tuesday of Shravan Begins Mangala Gauri Vrat 2026
Every year, Hindu families celebrate a special month called Shravan.
During this month, married women do a special prayer called the Mangala Gauri Vrat.
They do this on every Tuesday of the month.
The prayers are for Goddess Gauri, who is a form of Goddess Parvati.
Women pray for a happy married life and the well-being of their families.
This year, the first Tuesday falls on August 18.
Newly married women are especially excited, as their first Mangala Gauri is a big celebration.
They wear traditional clothes, do the puja, and get together with family and friends.
Different parts of India celebrate on different days because some places use a different calendar.
But no matter the day, it is the same joyful festival.
The first Tuesday of Shravan, August 18, 2026, marks the beginning of Mangala Gauri Vrat observances in Maharashtra.
The ritual is dedicated to Goddess Gauri, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, who is worshipped for marital harmony, family well-being and prosperity.
Married women observe the vrat on every Tuesday during Shravan, with special significance for newly married brides celebrating their first Mangala Gauri.
In Maharashtra and other regions following the Amanta lunar calendar, the vrat falls on August 18, August 25, September 1 and September 8.
Observance dates vary across India because several northern states follow the Purnimanta calendar, and in southern states the vrat is known as Sri Mangala Gowri Vratham.
