GITAM Hospital Visakhapatnam Secures Approval for Kidney Transplants

Some people have kidneys that stop working, and they need a new one to stay healthy.

A kidney transplant is an operation where a healthy kidney is put into a sick person's body.

The new kidney can come from a living person, like a family member, or from someone who has passed away and chose to donate their organs.

In Visakhapatnam, a big hospital called GITAM Hospital got special permission to do these operations.

The permission came from Jeevandan, an official organ donation initiative.

The hospital is very big, with 750 beds for patients who stay overnight.

It also has 73 beds for very sick patients in the intensive care unit.

Many different kinds of doctors will work together to help people before, during, and after the transplant.

The hospital built special rooms for surgery, made just for donors and people receiving new kidneys.

GITAM Hospital wants to make kidney transplants easier to get and less expensive for people in the area.
