Waugh, Maxwell join European T20 League as franchise owners

The European T20 Premier League (ETPL) is a new cricket league that will start in late summer 2026.

It is backed by the cricket boards of the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland and has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The league will have six teams and 34 matches.

Recently, the ETPL announced the owners of its first three franchises: Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Belfast.

Steve Waugh, an Australian cricket legend, will lead the group owning the Amsterdam franchise.

The Edinburgh franchise will be owned by former New Zealand players Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills.

Glenn Maxwell, an Australian all-rounder, will own the Belfast franchise.

The league aims to grow cricket in Europe and uphold the spirit of the game.

Abhishek Bachchan, a Bollywood star, is one of the co-founders of the ETPL.

Steve Waugh believes that Europe is the last frontier of cricket and that the ETPL offers a unique opportunity to expand the sport's footprint across the continent.

He sees the league as a chance to break new ground for the sport and develop new talent.
