Associations Demand 50% Quota in Cooperative Bodies
Some groups in Andhra Pradesh had a meeting in Guntur.
They want the government to give 50% of the jobs in cooperative groups to people from SC, ST, BC, and women.
They also want more jobs for BC people in local elections.
They say the government is not following the rules and want a new law to make sure everyone gets a fair chance.
They even threatened to take the government to court if they don't listen.
SC, ST, BC, minority and women’s associations demanded 50% reservation in cooperative sector governing bodies.
They urged the state government to enforce Section 22A of the Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Societies Rules, 1964.
The associations called for a 34% BC quota in local body elections, similar to Tamil Nadu's 69% quota.
They criticized the government for appointing three-member boards without proper reservation in Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS).
Leaders threatened legal action if the issue was not addressed and stressed the need to strengthen cooperative federations and protect existing reservation frameworks.
