UP Minister Backs Encounters Amid Gonda Trader Killing Row

UP Minister Backs Encounters Amid Gonda Trader Killing Row

A trader named Vinod Sahani was attacked in Gonda after some people allegedly became angry about messages he posted online.

He was badly hurt and later died in a hospital.

Police arrested three people and are looking for others.

Three police officers were suspended for allegedly not doing their jobs properly.

Sanjay Nishad, a minister whose party supports the state government, protested and demanded very strict action.

He said the suspects should surrender or could face an encounter, and that illegal property should be demolished.

The incident has become sensitive because the victim belonged to the Nishad community and the arrested suspects were described by police as upper caste.

Opposition parties joined the demand for justice.

A BJP spokesperson said encounters are not government policy and that police action must follow the law.
