Punjab, Haryana CMs Discuss SYL Canal
The leaders of Punjab and Haryana, Bhagwant Mann and Nayab Singh Saini, had a meeting in Chandigarh to talk about the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, which has been a big disagreement between the two states for a long time.
They said the talk was friendly and positive.
They decided that their officials should meet regularly to work on solving the problem.
Both leaders want to make sure that neither state loses out on its water rights.
Punjab says it doesn't have extra water to share, and building the canal isn't possible until the water issue is sorted out.
The Supreme Court has asked both states to work together to find a solution, and the next hearing is in April 2025.
Punjab and Haryana CMs met in Chandigarh to discuss the SYL canal issue, with officials to meet frequently for further discussions.
Both CMs emphasized a positive and constructive atmosphere during the meeting.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann asserted that the issue has been pending for years and invoked the Supreme Court's directive for talks.
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini stated that meaningful discussions took place and agreed to officer-level talks in the coming time.
The next round of discussions will be held at the secretary level of both states, with further action to be taken within the next fortnight.
