Bihar Voter Roll Updates Continue with Supreme Court Oversight
The Election Commission in Bihar is still working on the voter list, even past the original deadline.
The Supreme Court is watching over this process.
People can still make changes or complain about the list.
The Court has told local legal services to help voters and political parties submit information online.
Around 65 lakh people were initially left off the list, but they can apply to be included.
The government is checking names and making sure everyone is registered correctly.
This is being done before the upcoming state elections, with the aim of cleaning up the voter rolls.
The Election Commission (EC) will consider claims and objections to the Bihar voter rolls beyond the initial September 1 deadline.
The Supreme Court directed the Bihar Legal Services Authority to assist voters with online submissions.
Political parties can help voters file forms with any of 11 documents, including Aadhaar.
Around 65 lakh electors were excluded from the initial draft roll.
The EC’s SIR order seeks to cleanse the rolls by requiring birth-based proof of citizenship.
