NIA Chargesheets Two More in Assam IED Plot
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charged two more people, Bhargab Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, in a case about bombs found in Assam before Independence Day in 2024.
This makes the total number of people accused in this case five.
The NIA says these two helped fund someone who admitted to planting some of the bombs.
The bombs were part of a plan by a group called ULFA(I) to protest and boycott Independence Day.
The case started when the Assam Police found bombs in many places, and the NIA took over the investigation because it was a big terror plot.
The NIA is still looking for more people involved.
NIA chargesheeted Bhargab Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi in the Assam IED plot case, bringing the total accused to five.
The two accused were arrested in June 2025 and allegedly provided terror funds to Jahnu Boruah, who confessed to planting IEDs.
The IEDs were part of a protest and Independence Day boycott call by ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah.
The case was initially investigated by the Assam Police and later handed over to the NIA in September 2024 due to its terror links.
The NIA continues to investigate to identify additional operatives and networks linked to the banned outfit's alleged attempt to orchestrate coordinated blasts.
