Wanaparthy Farmers Protest Erratic Power Supply Damaging Crops

Farmers in Peddagudem said their crops were drying because they were not getting enough electricity.

Electricity is needed to run borewells and motors that pump water to the fields.

The farmers said they were promised 12 hours of power but often received less than six reliable hours.

They protested outside a local electricity sub-station and on the main road.

Officials came to hear their concerns.

Electrical DE Srinivasulu said demand had increased because of the El Niño effect.

Additional Collector Kheema Naik and other officials promised to improve the supply.

The farmers ended their protest after receiving that assurance.
