Maharashtra Approves Uttan-Virar Sea Link Project
Imagine building a super-fast road along the coast to make it easier to travel around Mumbai.
The government approved a plan to build a new road called the Uttan-Virar Sea Link.
This road will connect Uttan to Virar and make travel faster.
It'll be an eight-lane road with some parts built over the water, and they will need to use some land for it, including parts of the forest.
The project will cost a lot of money, but some changes have made it cheaper than before.
The money comes from different sources, like a group in Japan and the government.
Maharashtra Coastal Zone Authority approved the Uttan-Virar Sea Link (UVSL) project.
The project aims to link northern Mumbai Metropolitan Region areas with an eight-lane, 55.12 km coastal corridor.
The project involves diverting mangrove forest and acquiring private land for construction.
The project's cost has been reduced to Rs 52,652 crore from the initial Rs 87,427 crore.
Funding will come from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the state government, and MMRDA.
