Fertilizer Sales Surge Driven by Monsoon Demand
Fertilizer sales are up, increasing by 14% in the first two months.
Farmers are buying more fertilizers like urea, MOP, and complex fertilizers, but less DAP.
While the government says enough DAP is available, sales are lower than expected.
The increase in demand is tied to the monsoon covering over 90% of the country.
However, the production of fertilizers is down, especially urea.
Imports of fertilizers have also decreased.
Overall fertilizer sales increased by 14% during the first two months.
Urea, MOP, and complex fertilizer sales met 88-96% of the requirement in May, while DAP sales were about 60%.
Consumption of Urea, DAP, MOP, and complex fertilizers rose to 58.32 lakh tonnes during April-May.
Fertilizer production decreased by 5.1% during April-May, with Urea production dropping significantly.
Overall fertilizer imports dipped substantially during April-May.
