Thousands Rally in Latur for SC Sub-Categorization
A large protest took place in Latur, Maharashtra, where thousands of people, including members of Scheduled Caste communities, marched to demand that the government divide the SC quota into smaller groups.
This is called sub-categorization.
The protesters want this to happen so that reservation benefits can be distributed more fairly among all sections within the Scheduled Castes.
They carried copies of the Constitution and placards supporting their cause.
The protest started at Annabhau Sathe Chowk and ended at the Zilla Parishad, where they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The organizers said the protest was not against any community but to secure constitutional rights and fair representation.
They warned of more protests if their demands are not met, including a march to Mumbai on September 29.
The police were heavily deployed to maintain order.
