Lokayukta Files Case Over Illegal Sand Mining in Bagalkote
The Karnataka Lokayukta has started a case against some important officials because they did not stop people from mining sand illegally in Bagalkote district.
The Lokayukta checked 41 places where sand is mined and found that only 9 were allowed to mine, while the rest were doing it illegally.
They saw many trucks, tractors, and other machines being used to mine sand, which is not allowed and causes damage to the land and rivers.
The officials did not do their job properly to stop this illegal mining.
The Lokayukta has suggested some ways to improve the situation, like using cameras and drones to watch the mining sites better and taking stronger legal action against those who break the rules.
The Karnataka Lokayukta registered a case against senior officials for failing to control illegal sand mining in Bagalkote district.
Inspections revealed 32 out of 41 sand mining sites were operating illegally.
Heavy machinery was used to excavate sand to depths of 15 to 20 feet, causing environmental damage.
The District Task Force and Taluk Task Forces were found to have failed in controlling illegal mining activities.
The Lokayukta recommended measures like continuous surveillance, joint raids, and stricter legal action to prevent illegal sand mining.
