Baltic Sea Cable Damage Under Investigation
A very important underwater cable that helps Latvia and Lithuania talk to each other got damaged.
The Prime Minister of Latvia told everyone about it.
People are trying to find out what happened, but they haven't found any proof that a ship in the area did it.
There have been other similar problems with cables in the area recently.
The company that owns the cable says they will fix it soon.
Everyone is working together to figure out what caused the damage.
An underwater telecoms cable between Latvia and Lithuania was damaged on January 2.
Latvian police inspected a ship in Liepaja port but found no evidence linking it to the damage.
Arelion, the owner of the cable, reported additional damage to other cables in the region on December 30-31.
All damaged cables are fully severed, with restoration expected within days to weeks.
The Baltic Sea region has seen multiple cable and pipeline outages since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
