Assam CM Warns of Demographic Shift
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, spoke about a big change in the state's population.
He said that the number of Muslims, especially those from Bangladesh, has been growing.
In 2011, about 34% of Assam's population was Muslim.
If you take out the local Assamese Muslims, about 31% were from Bangladesh.
The Chief Minister thinks that by 2027, this number could be around 40%.
He believes this is a big problem for Assam's culture and history.
He also talked about important historical figures and warned against mixing up their stories.
He thinks the Congress party's old policies have caused this change, which he calls a 'conspiracy' to weaken Assam's identity.
He also warned that if the population of Bangladeshi-origin Muslims crosses 50%, there might be attempts to merge Assam with Bangladesh.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma raised concerns about a demographic shift in the state, alleging a rise in the Bangladeshi-origin Muslim population.
He claimed that in 2011, Muslims made up 34% of Assam's population, with 31% being of Bangladeshi origin.
Sarma projected that by 2027, the Bangladeshi-origin Muslim population could reach 40%, terming it a 'conspiracy' to weaken Assam's community.
He asserted that this trend is a result of 'appeasement politics' by the Congress, which has long-term consequences for Assam's identity.
Sarma also discussed Assam's cultural and historical icons, cautioning against blurring historical narratives.
