Amazon to Cut 30,000 Corporate Jobs
Amazon, the big online shopping and cloud computing company, is planning to let go of about 30,000 of its office workers.
This is part of a big plan to make the company more efficient and less bureaucratic.
The layoffs are expected to start very soon, maybe as early as Tuesday, and will affect many people in different parts of the world, especially in India.
The jobs being cut are mostly in areas like their cloud computing service, their online store, their video streaming service, and their human resources department.
The company says they're doing this to make their organization better and faster.
They also mentioned that new artificial intelligence technology is helping them do more with fewer people.
Even though 30,000 is a lot, it's only a small part of their total workforce, which is over 1.5 million people.
Most of Amazon's workers are in their warehouses and delivery services, not in corporate offices.
This will be the biggest layoff in Amazon's history, even bigger than the 27,000 jobs they cut in 2022 and 2023.
Amazon plans to lay off 30,000 corporate employees, with the second round of layoffs starting as early as Tuesday, 27 January.
Affected divisions include Amazon Web Services, retail, Prime Video, and HR units, with a significant impact on teams in India.
The company previously cut 14,000 jobs in October 2023, nearly half of the planned total.
Amazon cites the need to reduce bureaucracy and improve efficiency, with AI playing a role in the decision.
