Pilot Raises Frixion Pen Prices After 20 Years
Pilot, a big pen company in Japan, has raised the price of its popular Frixion pen for the first time in 20 years.
The CEO, Fumio Fujisaki, said that because of inflation, people are now willing to pay more for everyday items.
This is a big change for Japan, which has had very little inflation for a long time.
The price of the Frixion pen went up by 10%, and it's not clear yet how customers will react.
Other companies in Japan are also starting to raise prices because of inflation, like Japan Post, which raised postage rates.
The CEO thinks that if Pilot raises prices, other companies might do the same.
Pilot Corporation raised the price of its bestselling Frixion pen by 10% for the first time in nearly 20 years.
CEO Fumio Fujisaki attributes the price hike to rising inflation and changing consumer mindsets in Japan.
Japan's core inflation rate is expected to remain above 2% next year, leading to higher interest rates.
The Frixion pen accounts for over 40% of Pilot's domestic pen sales, and the price increase carries risks for market share.
Other companies in Japan, such as Japan Post, have also recently raised prices due to inflation.
