Pension Committee Submits Report to Tamil Nadu CM
A committee in Tamil Nadu, led by a senior officer, gave a report to the Chief Minister about which pension plan is best for government workers.
The workers have been asking for the old pension plan to be brought back, and they might go on strike if their demand is not met.
The government is now deciding what to do, especially since there are upcoming elections.
The Chief Minister also checked how some big projects are going.
The opposition parties want the government to make a decision quickly.
The committee discussed three pension schemes: the Old Pension Scheme, the Contributory Pension Scheme, and the Unified Pension Scheme.
The government employees' unions are protesting because they believe the government promised to bring back the Old Pension Scheme but has not done so in the past four years.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of 27 iconic projects costing Rs 58,740 crore.
The government has identified 288 iconic projects, and 85 have already been completed.
The pension committee submitted its report to Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin on Tuesday.
The committee was formed in February to recommend the best pension scheme among three options.
Government employees' unions are demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and have threatened to strike from January 6, 2026.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of 27 iconic projects costing Rs 58,740 crore.
Opposition parties are urging the government to announce the pension scheme decision before the strike date.
