MP Panchayat Orders Social Boycott for Eating at Dalit's House
In a village in Madhya Pradesh, a man named Bharat Singh Dhakad and two others from an upper caste community had a meal at a Dalit family's house as part of a ritual.
The village council, called the panchayat, got upset and ordered a social boycott against them.
The panchayat said that eating at a Dalit's house was a very bad thing and told them to do certain things to be accepted back, like bathing in a holy river and throwing a big feast.
Two of the men did what the panchayat said, but Dhakad refused and complained to the police.
He said he and his family were being treated badly and not allowed to join in village events.
The panchayat leader said the allegations were not true.
The police are now looking into the matter to see if any laws were broken.
A village panchayat in Madhya Pradesh ordered a social boycott against three upper-caste men for eating at a Dalit's house during a ritual.
Two of the men complied with the panchayat's conditions, including bathing in the Ganga river and organizing a feast, while one refused and filed a police complaint.
The complainant, Bharat Singh Dhakad, alleged social ostracism and being treated as an untouchable, barred from social events and the temple.
The panchayat's sarpanch denied the allegations, stating they were personal matters and not related to untouchability.
Authorities have launched an investigation, and legal action will be taken if the allegations are proven true.
