Draft Policy Eases Green Energy Targets for Power Producers
Imagine the government wants everyone to use more clean energy like wind and water power.
They have rules that make energy companies buy a certain amount of this green energy.
Now, they are thinking of changing these rules to give these companies a little break.
The new plan would mean the companies don't have to buy as much wind and water power.
However, they still need to get a total amount of green energy.
Even with the changes, some companies may still find it hard to meet these goals.
To reach the targets, they might need to build a lot more green energy sources in the future.
A new draft amendment proposes easing green energy targets for power producers.
The amendment is part of the Centre's policy on Renewable Power Obligations.
Current regulations require TNPDCL to buy specific percentages of wind and hydro power.
Revised targets are set for 2025-26 for projects after March 2024.
Total renewable power obligations remain, but flexibility is allowed.
