Odisha Assembly Triples MLAs' Salaries to Rs 3.45 Lakh

The Odisha Assembly in India has decided to increase the monthly salary of its members, called MLAs, from Rs 1.11 lakh to Rs 3.45 lakh.

This is more than three times the previous amount and is one of the highest salaries for MLAs in the country.

The new salary will start from June 2024.

The increase also applies to the Chief Minister, ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the Leader of the Opposition.

Their salaries have also gone up by around three times.

The Assembly also decided to give Rs 25 lakh to the family of any sitting MLA if they pass away.

Additionally, the pension for former MLAs has been increased to Rs 1.17 lakh per month.

All the members of the Assembly agreed to these changes, saying it was necessary to match the current responsibilities and economic conditions.

The increase in pension will especially help older and sick former MLAs.
