SEBI mulls raising SME IPO capital cap to ₹100 crore

SEBI mulls raising SME IPO capital cap to ₹100 crore

India has a special stock market platform just for small and medium companies, called the SME platform.

A group called SEBI makes the rules for India's stock markets.

Right now, only quite small companies can list their shares on this platform.

SEBI wants to let bigger companies, worth up to about ₹5,000 crore, use the platform too.

That could help mid-sized companies raise money without the high costs of the main stock market.

SEBI also wants to lower the minimum amount of ₹2 lakh that investors must apply with at one time.

This amount was doubled a couple of years ago to stop people from speculating too much.

Fewer small companies have been listing lately, so SEBI thinks easing the rules will bring more of them to the market.

These changes still need more review and public feedback before they become final.
