Court sends protesters to custody after India Gate violence
In New Delhi, a court decided to send four students to police custody for two days and 13 others to judicial custody for one day.
They were arrested for hitting police officers and planning to do bad things against the government during a protest at India Gate about pollution.
The police said the protesters might be connected to a banned group and used pepper spray.
The lawyers for the protesters said the police are making new claims that weren't in the original report.
In total, 23 students were arrested, and two police reports were filed.
A Delhi court sent four protesters to two-day police custody and 13 others to one-day judicial custody after a violent protest against air pollution at India Gate.
Police alleged that 10 personnel were attacked with pepper spray and that the protesters have 'Naxal links' and supported a banned organization.
The court heard a case against 17 people, with police seeking seven-day custody for four protesters and an extension for the other 13.
Defense lawyers argued that the police are introducing new allegations not mentioned in the original FIR and that the grounds for arrest were not provided.
In total, 23 students were arrested, with two FIRs lodged under charges related to assault, obstruction of public servants, and outraging the modesty of women.
