India Warns of Solar Module Oversupply
India's clean energy ministry has warned that there might be too many solar panels being made in the country.
They asked banks to be careful when lending money to companies that want to make more solar panels.
This is because many Indian companies have been making solar panels to sell to the US, but the US has put higher taxes and checks on these panels, making it harder to sell them.
Also, people in India are not buying as many new solar panels as before.
The ministry said that the country's ability to make solar panels is growing much faster than what people need.
They suggested that banks should give money to companies that make all the parts needed for solar panels, so India doesn't have to rely so much on other countries like China.
India's clean energy ministry warns of potential oversupply in the solar module market.
Banks and lenders are urged to adopt a cautious approach in financing new solar module manufacturing capacity.
Indian solar module manufacturing capacity is expected to rise by a third to 200 GW in the next few years.
Cell production could grow nearly four-fold to 100 GW, exceeding local demand.
The ministry recommends prioritizing funding for integrated facilities to reduce reliance on imports, mainly from China.
