Indian Army to buy 850 Kamikaze drones
The Indian Army is planning to buy 850 Kamikaze drones, also known as loitering munitions, to improve its fighting abilities.
These drones will be used by the Army, other defense services, and special forces.
The purchase is expected to be approved soon and will be made from Indian sources.
The Army also plans to add 30,000 more such drones in the future.
Each Army infantry group will have a special team called an 'Ashni' platoon to operate these drones.
This plan comes after the Army successfully used drones in a recent operation called Operation Sindoor, where they targeted terrorist locations in Pakistan.
The Indian Army plans to buy 850 Kamikaze drones worth Rs 2000 crore to enhance its drone warfare capabilities.
The procurement is at an advanced stage and is expected to be cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council in the last week of this month.
The drones and their launchers will be sourced indigenously and the procurement will be carried out under fast-track procedures.
The Army plans to induct 30,000 more loitering munitions in the near future to equip all its combat units.
Each infantry battalion will be equipped with a dedicated 'Ashni' platoon responsible for operating drones against enemy positions and supporting counterinsurgency operations.
