Krishna Water Sharing Deadlock Continues Between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Krishna Water Sharing Deadlock Continues Between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are discussing how to share water from the Krishna River.

Their officials met on August 24 but could not agree on a final sharing plan.

The water is stored in the Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam reservoirs.

Telangana asked for the available drinking water to be divided equally.

Telangana also accused Andhra Pradesh of taking too much water from one regulator.

Both sides agreed in principle that the water should currently be used only for drinking.

This is because El Niño conditions may affect water availability.

The officials will meet again on September 4 to continue the discussion.
