Assam Accord: Key Clauses Remain Unfulfilled After 40 Years
The Assam Accord was made 40 years ago to address illegal immigration in Assam, but many parts of it are still not done.
The plan was to find and deport people who came into Assam illegally, but this hasn't happened.
The government has also not provided enough safeguards to protect Assamese people and their land, culture, and language.
Even with better border security, people are still coming in from other countries, so the issues of the past have still not been solved.
Assam Accord, signed 40 years ago, has key clauses yet to be implemented.
Detection and deportation of foreigners, as per the Accord, has not begun.
The NRC, intended to aid in identifying foreigners, is disputed and its fate is pending.
The government has not provided constitutional safeguards for the Assamese people.
Border security improvements haven't fully stopped infiltration.
