Mother Convicted in Kannur Infant Murder Case
A mother named Saranya was found guilty of throwing her one-and-a-half-year-old son into the sea in Kerala, India.
The court said there wasn't enough proof to blame her friend, Nidhin.
Saranya asked for mercy, saying she was young, had no support, and was very stressed.
The baby's body was found near a seawall after a search.
At first, the father was suspected, but evidence like saltwater on Saranya's clothes and the baby's injuries pointed to her.
After two days of questioning, Saranya admitted to the crime.
The court heard from 47 witnesses before deciding.
Saranya was convicted for murdering her one-and-a-half-year-old son by throwing him into the sea.
Nidhin, Saranya's male friend, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The incident occurred on February 17, 2020, near Thayyil seashore in Kannur district, Kerala.
Saranya pleaded for leniency, citing her young age, lack of support, and mental stress.
The court will pronounce the sentence for Saranya on Wednesday.
