BMC Announces Water Cuts and Tunnel Project

BMC Announces Water Cuts and Tunnel Project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will stop water supply for 24 hours in some parts of Mumbai and Thane.

This is to fix water pipes and a canal.

The areas affected are Bhandup, Mulund, and a small part of Thane.

In Mulund West, they will move water connections to a big pipe.

In Bhandup West, they will put a metal cover on another big pipe.

The work will start at 10 AM on January 27 and finish at 10 AM on January 28.

Additionally, there will be a 10% water cut from January 27 to February 7, 2026, in most civic wards in the island city and eastern suburbs, and several areas under Thane and Bhiwandi municipal corporations.

This is for annual maintenance work on the pneumatic gate system.

Residents are advised to use water carefully and boil and filter drinking water as a precaution.

The BMC also received approval for a new 21-kilometer water tunnel project to improve Mumbai's water supply.

This project will make the water supply more reliable and reduce the risk of leaks and damage.
