Pakistan and Turkey Offer Saudi Support, Not Immediate Combat Troops

Pakistan and Turkey Offer Saudi Support, Not Immediate Combat Troops

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have a promise to help defend one another.

Their officials now say they will take practical steps to provide military help to Saudi Arabia.

That does not necessarily mean Pakistani or Turkish soldiers will immediately fight in Yemen.

The agreement must follow each country’s own laws and arrangements.

Türkiye’s Parliament has not yet approved the pact.

Pakistan’s defence minister said the two countries were playing supportive roles, while Saudi troops were fighting.

Pakistan and Türkiye have also said Saudi Arabia had not asked them to send combat forces.

They may be cautious because fighting could increase tensions with Iran and make regional conflicts harder to resolve.
