Amazon pledges $1 billion and greater data center transparency

Amazon pledges $1 billion and greater data center transparency

Amazon says it will give $1 billion to communities over five years.

The money could help train workers, save energy and support other local needs.

The company also says it has stopped using secrecy agreements with government agencies.

Some people have opposed data centers, and the issue has become politically important in many parts of the country.

Amazon cloud chief Matt Garman said more than 100 possible pauses on data center projects are being considered.

He warned that such pauses could hurt the United States’ ability to compete in artificial intelligence.

Amazon did not name China in its post.

The company made these promises in a blog post on Friday.
