US Role in 1971 Bangladesh Genocide

US Role in 1971 Bangladesh Genocide

A new documentary called 'Chronicle of the Forgotten Genocide' talks about a very sad and violent time in 1971 when the Pakistani military hurt many people in what was then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.

The documentary says that the United States, through its president Richard Nixon, secretary of state Henry Kissinger, and the CIA, helped Pakistan during this time.

The US gave Pakistan money, weapons, and secret support to try to stop East Pakistan from becoming independent.

This independence happened in December 1971 with the help of India.

The documentary also talks about how the US has not been held responsible for its role in this genocide.

Today, the US is openly involved in changing governments in other countries, and the current government in Bangladesh is trying to forget about the genocide.

The documentary is a reminder of this important and tragic part of history.
