Pune Patients’ Rights Council Seeks Healthcare Reforms, Warns Of Agitation

A patients’ group in Pune says hospital bills are often difficult to understand and too expensive.

It wants hospitals to clearly list the cost of medicines, tests, rooms and doctors’ fees.

The group also wants patients to receive refunds when hospitals charge them unfairly.

It has asked for regular checks of hospital bills and charitable hospitals.

It wants information about free beds and hospital charges to be available online.

The group also wants medicine and medical-supply prices to be monitored more closely.

It gave the government 90 days to take action.

If nothing changes, it says it will begin a statewide campaign and agitation.
