Bata India's Profit Hit by GST Disruption, Shares Fall
Bata India, a popular shoe company, recently announced that its profits dropped significantly in the last three months compared to the same time last year.
Their sales went down because some customers and store partners waited to buy shoes after new tax (GST) rules were announced.
Also, a problem at one of their big warehouses for a short time affected business.
However, the company says sales have started to get better as people are buying shoes for the festive season, especially cheaper ones.
Bata is working on new shoe designs, improving its stores, and making its delivery system faster.
They are also planning to open more stores run by partners instead of owning all of them to help manage costs.
Online sales are also growing, and they expect them to be a much bigger part of their business in the future.
Bata India's net profit for the second quarter fell by 73.72% year-on-year to Rs 13.76 crore.
Revenue from operations decreased to Rs 801.33 crore from Rs 837.14 crore in the same period last year.
The decline in sales was attributed to GST rate rationalization and a disruption at a major warehouse.
Bata India is implementing a strategy focused on product innovation, store revamps, and supply chain agility.
The company is increasing its focus on franchise stores to manage costs and expand its market reach.
