India's October Fuel Consumption Surges Amidst Festival Demand and GST Adjustments
India saw a big increase in people using fuel in October!
Because of holidays and some tax cuts, more people bought petrol for their cars, making sales the highest in five months.
Trucks and other vehicles used more diesel fuel, reaching a four-month high.
This was helped by people buying more for the upcoming farming season and because mining work started again.
Airplane fuel also sold more than it has in five months because more people are flying.
This boost in fuel use is happening because more Indians are doing better financially, traveling more, and buying more things.
India's diesel consumption rose 12% month-on-month in October 2025 to 7.6 million tonnes, reaching a four-month high, influenced by festival demand and GST rate cuts.
Petrol consumption increased over 7% month-on-month and year-on-year in October 2025, reaching a five-month high due to increased personal vehicle sales.
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) consumption saw a 7% month-on-month and over 1.5% year-on-year rise in October 2025, hitting a five-month high.
Diesel demand was further supported by the upcoming Rabi season in the farm sector and the resumption of mining activities.
The International Energy Agency projects India to lead global oil demand growth by 2030, primarily driven by petrol and jet fuel consumption due to an expanding middle class.
