Congress Accuses Gujarat Govt of Inaction on Drugs
The Congress party in Gujarat is upset with the state government.
They say that over the past four years, drugs worth a huge amount of money (Rs 16,000 crore) have been seized, but no one has been punished.
They also say the police are not doing their job properly.
A Congress leader, Jignesh Mevani, went to a police office and said the police are taking bribes from drug sellers.
This made the police personnel's families angry, and they protested against Mevani.
The Congress also says the home minister is not doing enough to stop drugs from coming into Gujarat.
Congress claims drugs worth Rs 16,000 crore seized in Gujarat over four years, but no culprits found.
Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani accused police of taking bribes from drug dealers, leading to protests by police personnel's kin.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi responded to Mevani's actions, saying not to worry about public representatives talking about the law.
Congress alleges high-level corruption in Gujarat's home department and revenue department.
Protests were held in Palanpur, Patan, and Vav-Tharad districts against Mevani's comments about police personnel.
