Students protest for anti-erosion measures in Dibrugarh
Students in Dibrugarh went on a 12-hour hunger strike to ask the government to do more to stop the river from eroding the land.
They say the Brahmaputra river is causing a lot of damage, and the work to protect the area is not being done quickly or well enough.
The students want the Chief Minister and other important officials to take action and make sure the city is safe from future flooding and erosion.
They also say that temporary fixes like geobags don't work and that a permanent solution is needed.
The students are worried because the best time to do this work is during the dry season, but not enough is being done.
All Dibrugarh Students’ Union (ADSU) staged a 12-hour hunger strike in Phoolbagan, Dibrugarh.
The protest aimed to draw attention to the alleged negligence of the Water Resources department in addressing erosion and flooding along the Brahmaputra river.
ADSU president Tanuj Haloi criticized the slow pace of anti-erosion work and demanded immediate intervention from the Chief Minister and senior officials.
The students emphasized the need for permanent and scientifically designed solutions instead of temporary measures like geobags.
ADSU general secretary Papu Saikia highlighted the importance of the dry season for implementing comprehensive anti-erosion measures.
