India May Triple FDI Approval Threshold to ₹15,000 Crore
India is a big country that wants companies from other countries to bring money and start businesses here.
When foreign companies want to invest a lot of money, the government has to check and give permission.
Right now, investments above Rs 5,000 crore need approval from a very important group called the CCEA.
The government now wants to increase that limit to Rs 15,000 crore.
This means smaller government departments could approve bigger investments by themselves.
That could make the whole process faster and easier.
The government also wants new rules so companies do not have to get permission again and again for indirect investments.
A draft plan has been prepared with help from several government departments.
If it is approved, these changes could bring more foreign money into India and help the economy grow.
The government is considering raising the CCEA approval threshold for FDI proposals from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore.
A draft Cabinet note has reportedly been prepared with consultations among the Finance Ministry, DPIIT and NITI Aayog.
The proposed change would let ministries clear larger FDI proposals without referring them to the CCEA, reducing processing times.
The government is also examining changes to downstream foreign investment rules to avoid repeated approvals in an ownership chain.
The Rs 5,000-crore threshold has been in place since November 2015, and the changes support India's goal of a developed nation by 2047.
