Bangladesh Dengue Toll Surpasses 280 as Cases Rise in 2025
In Bangladesh, more people are getting a mosquito-borne illness called dengue this year, 2025, compared to last year.
Sadly, 283 people have died from it so far this year.
In just one day, five more people passed away and over a thousand new cases were found.
Many of these patients are in the hospital.
Health officials are trying to stop mosquitoes from breeding and are reminding people to protect themselves.
They say that while there are more sick people this year, fewer are dying compared to the number of people who get sick.
Officials also mentioned that many people who die from dengue in the hospital pass away very soon after arriving, which suggests they might have waited to seek help.
They emphasize that early medical care is very important to help people get better.
Five more deaths due to dengue were reported in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, bringing the 2025 toll to 283.
1,162 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, raising the total number of cases in 2025 to 71,675.
Currently, 1,040 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka and 2,982 across Bangladesh.
The number of dengue cases in 2025 is higher than last year, but the death rate relative to infections is lower.
Health authorities stress the importance of mosquito breeding prevention, early diagnosis, and prompt medical care to reduce fatalities.
