India-Russia partnership poised for deeper strategic cooperation amid geopolitics
India and Russia have been friends for a very long time, for almost eighty years.
A new report says they want to become even closer friends to help each other in a changing world.
The leaders of both countries, the Prime Minister of India and the President of Russia, meet every year to talk.
At their 2025 meeting, they signed many big agreements worth a lot of money.
These agreements cover things like defence, energy, trade, space and even smart cities.
India will buy powerful air defence systems and stealth warships from Russia.
The two countries also plan to make helicopters together in India and study building a gas pipeline.
They also work together on the BrahMos missile and fighter aircraft.
Both countries say they want a fair world where every country is treated equally.
They promise not to interfere in each other's internal matters.
Their friendship is expected to keep growing with more meetings in the future.
A report by the International Centre for Peace Studies says India and Russia are expected to forge a more durable and sustainable partnership amid geopolitical uncertainties.
India and Russia mark more than eight decades of diplomatic ties (1947–2026), described as a time-tested pillar of global peace and security.
The 2025 annual summit between PM Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin led to agreements worth billions of dollars across defence, energy, trade, space, agriculture and smart cities.
Defence deals include five S-400 'Triumf' systems, four Admiral Grigorovich-class stealth frigates, a joint venture for 200 Kamov-226 helicopters and a joint study of a gas pipeline to India.
The partnership is geared toward a stable multi-polar world order based on sovereign equality, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.
