Patna Consumer Commission Orders Sony Service Centre to Refund Rs 40,000
A man in Patna bought a Sony laptop in 2011.
In 2014, he took it to a Sony service centre because some keys weren't working.
The service centre first wrote that one key was missing but later corrected it.
However, they still charged him for replacing the entire keyboard.
The man complained to the consumer commission, which ordered the service centre to refund the money and pay extra for his trouble.
The court said the service centre did something unfair and should not have charged for a full keyboard replacement when only one key was missing.
Bipin Bihari Sahay bought a Sony laptop in 2011 for Rs 66,500 and extended the warranty for Rs 2,400.
In 2014, he took the laptop to Sony’s authorised service centre in Patna complaining about non-functioning keys.
The service centre initially noted 'one key missing' but corrected it, yet charged Rs 5,929 for a full keyboard replacement.
The consumer commission ordered the service centre to refund Rs 5,929 with 16% interest and pay Rs 20,000 for mental agony and Rs 15,000 for litigation costs.
The total compensation ordered was Rs 40,000, to be paid within 120 days.
