Cabinet Approves Four-Laning of Marakkanam-Puducherry Highway
The government is going to build a wider, four-lane road between Marakkanam and Puducherry in Tamil Nadu.
This road is part of a bigger project and will cost over 2000 crore rupees.
They're building a new section of road to avoid heavy traffic in the city and make travel faster.
The new road will also connect to railways, airports, and a port, making it easier to move people and goods.
It will improve access to important places like Auroville and JIPMER.
Cabinet approved four-laning of the Marakkanam-Puducherry section of NH-332A.
The 46 km project, costing Rs 2,157 crore, will be developed under Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).
The project is part of the Chennai-Puducherry-Nagapattinam corridor (ECR).
The project includes upgrading an existing 11-km two-lane road and a 35-km bypass.
It aims to reduce travel time by 40% and improve access to Auroville and JIPMER.
