High Fatalities on NH-44 Due to Golden Hour Delays
The Hyderabad-Nizamabad stretch of National Highway-44 has seen many serious accidents.
Even though the number of crashes has gone down, many people are still dying because they don't get the right medical help quickly enough.
The first hour after an accident, called the 'golden hour,' is very important.
If people don't get proper care during this time, they might die even if their injuries could have been treated.
Many small health centers along the highway don't have the right tools or trained staff to help seriously injured people.
This means they have to be moved to bigger hospitals without being stabilized, which can be dangerous.
Recently, one health center in Nizamabad district was upgraded with better equipment to help people right after an accident.
Doctors say that if people get the right care quickly, many lives could be saved.
The Hyderabad-Nizamabad stretch of National Highway-44 recorded 742 road crashes between January 2023 and October 2025, with 328 being fatal and resulting in 363 deaths.
There has been a reduction in crashes and fatalities from 271 crashes and 143 fatalities in 2023 to 217 crashes and 93 fatalities between January and October 2025.
Delays in the 'golden hour' after a crash, where victims do not receive timely medical care, are a major factor in avoidable deaths.
Many community health centers along the highway lack essential equipment and trained personnel to manage severe injuries, leading to delays in treatment.
The Community Health Centre at Dichpally in Nizamabad district has been upgraded with trauma care resources to improve stabilization before referral to tertiary hospitals.
