Gwalior High Court Summons Officials Over Oxytocin Misuse
The Gwalior High Court in Madhya Pradesh is very upset because a drug called Oxytocin, which was banned over ten years ago, is still being used by farmers and in poultry farms.
This drug is supposed to be used for medical purposes, but it's being used to make vegetables and poultry grow faster.
The court has called two important officials, the Principal Secretary of the Health Department and the Gwalior Collector, to explain why they haven't stopped this illegal use.
The court wants to know why the drug is still being sold openly in stores and sprayed on crops, which is very dangerous for people's health.
The court has asked for an explanation and wants to hold someone accountable for not following the rules.
Gwalior High Court issued contempt notices to Principal Secretary Sandeep Yadav and Collector Ruchika Chauhan over the misuse of banned drug Oxytocin.
Oxytocin is being used to accelerate the growth of vegetables like bottle gourd, watermelon, and potatoes, as well as in poultry farms.
The drug is being sold freely at local grocery stores and sprayed directly on crops, posing serious health threats.
The court questioned the persistence of this practice despite a clear ban issued in September 2013.
The petitioner, B.P. Singh Rajawat, highlighted the violation of the 2013 court directives and the health risks posed by Oxytocin-laced produce.
